CARING FOR THE NEEDY EVEN AFTER DEATH
Late Shri Shyam Lal Mehta

With his wife Mrs. Prem Mehta

Shyam Lal Mehta, a fiercely independent man is no more! However he will live among the hearts of several orphan children at Chakwaja to whom all their belongings have been donated. Initiative for Social Change and Action salutes Late Shri Shyam Lal Mehta and his ailing wife for their concern and appreciates their support towards the marginalized section of the society.   They are survived by two sons and a daughter.

Shri Mehta realized his responsibilities and fulfilled them in all earnestness. He nursed his ailing wife who suffers from cancer and Alzheimer’s disease and was next to her throughout. His actions displayed the real meaning of “till death do us apart”. He was a loving father and a responsible husband fulfilling his responsibilities towards all.

Experiencing several ups and downs in his life, he was cheated and exploited due to his simplicity. He had to start life afresh and began his new business from scratch at the late age of fifty. He developed it to be able to support his wife and three children. He struggled and suffered but encouraged his sons to pursue their careers. Not having them at his side brought him many hardships but he withstood them all single handedly. Amidst all his responsibilities, he was a fun loving man too. His children treasure his advice and love his attitude towards life even today.

Mrs. Prem Mehta, wife of Shri Shyam Lal Mehta is struggling through the last phases of Alzheimer’s disease. Her face lights up when she recalls her intense and happy childhood. She was trained in Music and teaching. She took pains in inculcating a respect towards nature among her children, which helps them to connect with nature easily. Mr Sunil Mehta, their eldest son, recalls fondly the morning walks he took with his mother and the pots of ‘Lassi’ they drank afterwards. While raising her children her heart cried out for the needy and the marginalized. She got involved in organizations like the Women’s Voluntary Services and went out of her way to extend her support and care towards the needy. Her desire to help the needy has been intense and consistent. She always had a desire to donate her possessions for a worthy cause. Today this desire has been transformed into action. Their eldest son Sunil and his wife Poonam, located the NGO, Initiative for Social Change and Action (ISCA) and expressed the desire to translate their parents’ dream into a reality. They donated all the belongings of their parents to ISCA for being used by the organization for the marginalized section of the society mainly in Faridabad and Chakwaja. They believe that such an action will bring relief and cheer into their mother’s heart and peace to their father’s soul!
